AIR stands for All Inclusive Radio. AIR began its life as a student radio station, streaming online to students at Westfield Arts College.
It soon grew and pulled together students from across the locale to jointly broadcast on AIR. The station continues to help ignite students’ creativity, boost self-confidence, meet curriculum objectives and ultimately, gives students a voice within their local community. Students work towards nationally recognized accreditation’s whilst having the opportunity to gain real media experience. AIR now offers the whole community the opportunity to be a part of its success by welcoming volunteers from all around the area to produce and present a varied and vibrant range of radio programming.
In April, AIR was awarded FM status by Ofcom. In July the radio station was invited to the Houses of Commons as finalists in the Arqiva Schools Radio Station Of The Year Awards.
Throughout the year AIR received more celebrity endorsements. Scott Mills from BBC Radio 1 appeared live on AIR during April with presenters, Rhys & Scott interviewing the award winning DJ about his life and career.
The station also secured an interview with award winning Cameraman Doug Allen of Frozen Planet. Doug conducted the interview while on his ‘Life Behind the Lens’ tour.
In 2012 AIR received official FM Community Radio Status from OFCOM. We have since been growing our community awareness and inviting volunteers to help broadcast, present and be part of AIR.
AIR is a CIC (Community Interest Company.)
The station streams 24hrs a day via our website www.aironair.co.uk and broadcasts on 107.2FM to Weymouth.
